This is fine as an ebook. Here's the trick, (which also solves the Table of Contents problem for most ebooks). When you first open this book, it opens at page one. When you tap the top of the page to call up the "Go To" function you will see that "Table of Contents" is grayed out. If you tap "Beginning" you just stay right at page one. Tap "Cover". It will take you to the cover. From there you can page through the copyright page and get to the Table of Contents. (You can also go to "Location" and enter 1 for the cover or 25 for the Table of Contents.) I've downloaded a number of books that don't start at the actual beginning, and these tricks have always worked on them.As to the book itself, hey, it's 1,364 pages of porcelain goodness. The selection of classics and "contemporary multicultural classics" is wildly idiosyncratic, but there's pretty much something for anyone. The business, personal effectiveness and health/diet sections are just bizarre. The biographies are pretty predictable.
This isn't like the later books that emphasize entertaining trivia. It's more like a mini Harvard Classics meets Reader's Digest, but sometimes that's just what you want.

This is an interesting collection of synopsis of many types of books. Being an avid reader I found it interesting to refresh my memory of past book classics. It is not a Cliff note type of book but will give you a general idea of what the book is about.
What a great way to review some of the greatest literary works to see if you are inclined to read the full length version! For those over 40, get your reading glasses out because the print is small! But they pack so much in to a medium-sized paperback book. Entries include literary classics, contemporary multicultural classics, quotes, biographies, business and leadership, health and fitness, expanding knowledge. A fun gift for anyone!
I bought the paper back versions of Vol 1-3 years ago. Now, I finally have them on . All the classics in one place !!!
I had this as a teenager in my bathroom (My dad had a sick sense of humor). I bought it again for my daughter for her shared dorm room.
We use these for high school homeschooling. They rate and review the synopsis. It has acutally simplified for us some of the classics that we won't have time to read but now at least we know about them. It has also intrigued my kids enough to want to read some books that might not have otherwise picked up. Hope to someday have the entire set.
When trying to entertain yourself, or get away from the family, these types of books can allow your mind a little peace and learning. Love the idea and hope they continue on publishing these things.
and I've only read a few dozen of the great novels in this book ...there's always been books I've wanted to read because they are among the 100 or 1000 best books ever written, but I've not been able to afford them, or I didn't have the time to read...but, nevertheless, I always wanted to know what the nature of the books were, the story, the characters and this book provides summaries and overall reviews of the novels...I am now able to discuss at least semi-intelligently, these books with fellow readers and that's worth a whole lot to me...I plan on going back and purchasing some of the books I've always wanted to read especially after discovering what the novel is about...I totally love this book and I'd recommend it highly to avid readers...
